a Road to Neverland
Research:
Origin: Peter Pan is a fairy-tale written in 1911 by J.M. Barrie. The character first appeared in Barrie’s 1902 novel, ‘The Little White Bird’. Though hes only mentioned in a few chapters, the books popularity and the readers’ attachment to peters character led Barrie to write the 1904 play “Peter Pan, the boy who wouldn’t grow up’. This play was first to introduce characters such as captain hook, Wendy and tinkerbell.
J.M. Barrie may have based the character on his older brother, David, who died in an ice-skating accident the day before his 14t birthday.
Peter Pan is a free-spirited and mischievous young boy who can fly and never grows up. He spends his never-ending childhood on the island of Neverland as the leader of The Lost boys.
Meaning: the story is said to have a few different messages to the viewer/reader. Some people say its about the fear of growing up, others say that it is about the imagination of a child and how adults don’t have this imagination anymore. Me personally, I prefer the second one.

How will i add the moral of the story into my work?
In my final product, the ride goes as following: you enter the tree, and with a wooden lift you will arrive at the top. When you get in a cart, the cart slowly rides out of the tree, and with speed drops down into a hole underground. Underground, the ride follows through a cave full of childhood imagination inspired by the Peter Pan movies and books. This is meant to represent childhood, as if you enter a child's imagination as long as the ride continues.
Concepts:
Concept 1: Skull rock as exploration attraction, surrounder by water with a bridge and stairs leading to the inside of the rock, where you can walk around and look at statues, painting, interactions, and an peter-pan environment, all visually telling the story of peter pan, wendy and her brothers. The path circles down to the exit which is in the back of the skulls head, surrounded by a pretty garden.

Concept 2: A Road to Neverland: Hangmans Tree, the one you see in the peter pan movies, on top of a rock, which you enter on your way to the start of the ride. the ride starts at the top of the tree, and as soon as the carts get outside, you will hang there for a while (hangmans tree), continued by a free fall into a cave of wonders and childhoods imagination.
Concept 2 sketch:

Concept 3: Peter's Shadow: You follow peter pans shadow. Kind of like an escape room but without puzzles. You follow peters shadow through a house, each room inspired by one of the locations in the story.

I do not have a sketch for this one unfortunately, the reason for this is because when i already kind of decided to work on the second concept, and i was motivated for it and had ideas, so i just started on that one instead of sketching concept three. But the idea was basically that you explore the Darlings Home, and in each room you have to follow Peter's shadow like in the movie, and he tells stories in the meanwhile. I also thought this concept was not convenient as it was suited for the target audience (15-20).
Styleboard (left) and moodboard (right)
On the style board i was mainly going for a retro cartoon-ish style, but still with something 'spooky'.
While modelling the 3d model i had a pop-art kind of style in mind, but i didn't add this
to my style board as it came in my mind later.
On my mood board i was going for a adventure vibe, like nature, mischief, maps, etc.
The moodboard features images of nature, mischievious photography and such.
To convey the adventurous spirit i included some pictures of pirates, mermaids and maps.

Reflection:
During my process i received some helpful feedback which i can definitely use in the future. one suggestion from my teacher was to make sure the style board elements go well together and make sense as a whole. I should also experiment more and try out different things. I also could have focussed more on the importance of making faster progress, mainly because i have a motivation problem

Looking back on the process and project, i did learn a lot more about Blender compared to my previous blender project. This term helped me improve my skills and expand my knowledge in these areas.
